A few days ago, rumours started that Kostas Tsimikas, who is on loan at Roma, will soon be back at Anfield. – This could be because Tottenham are close to buying left-back Andy Robertson from Liverpool.

Robertson, 31, whose contract at Anfield expires in the summer and said last week that he was unsure about his future. The Scotland international has only started four times in the Premier League this season and wants regular participation before the World Cup.

BBC Sport understands that Spurs have taken a rapprochement, but no results have been reached at this stage.

Liverpool signed Robertson from Hull City for £8 million in 2017 during Jürgen Klopp’s reign, and he has made 363 appearances for the Reds. Robertson’s last game came from the bench in the 1-1 draw against Burnley on January 17.

Prior to that game, Liverpool manager Arne Slot said Robertson had been “important” to the club and praised him for the way he has handled losing the starting position of summer signing Miloš Kerkez.

Hungarian international Kerkez would be the only left-back Slot can bring in if Robertson is sold, but it is understood that there is a good chance that Liverpool will look at bringing back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma.

Tottenham completed the signing of Brazilian left-back Souza on Thursday and are already well equipped on that part of the pitch. Destiny Udogie has been the preferred choice of manager Thomas Frank this season, with Djed Spence also offering cover.

Ben Davies was another option, but the 32-year-old Welsh international suffered an ankle fracture on Sunday and has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Robertson has won nine trophies during his time at Liverpool, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, this is on its way to triggering a chain reaction, which could continue to move pieces beyond the two already mentioned.

Kostas Tsimikas will return to “The Reds” from his loan spell in Rome early. The clubs are said to be in contact, and Liverpool are said to be “ready to welcome the left-back back”. There should be no resistance from Roma.

At the same time, the 29-year-old Tsimikas is sought after. The Athletic reports that Nottingham Forest want to sign the Greek. – And Roma, even if it doesn’t seem like it at first glance, are looking for a replacement.

That Tsimikas is unlikely to stay in Rome is something that has been reported for a while. In December, transfer specialist Nicolo Schira claimed that Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini was unhappy with the full-back, and that the loan could therefore be cancelled in the January window.
