Liverpool boss Michael Edwards is said to have taken the chance and flown to the United States this week for talks with his owners Fenway Sports Group about the signing of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

Big money and an okay from the owners are needed to be able to move forward with what will probably be the biggest transfer of the summer.

Liverpool are seriously interested in beating Bayern Munich in the battle for Wirtz, which could probably cost €150 million according to CF Bayern Insider.

The German international is a world talent with a big future ahead of him, and it will be exciting to see where he ends up. A departure from Leverkusen this summer seems likely, and the German club would prefer to avoid selling him to rivals Bayern.

This may have opened the door for Liverpool, at the same time as Manchester City have pulled out of the bidding battle due to the high price and manager Pep Guardiola’s desire to reduce the squad.

Arne Slot has had a fantastic start as Liverpool manager with a Premier League title already in his first season.

If the club manages to secure a signing like Wirtz, it could be a real game-changer – and a terrifying coup for the rest of the Premier League and Champions League.

The 22-year-old playmaker could form a lethal duo with Mohamed Salah and make this Liverpool team almost unstoppable. Such a signing would set a new standard in English football.

Will Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong be reunited at Anfield?

Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly ready for Liverpool, so he could be reunited with his former Leverkusen teammate on Merseyside.

The two already have chemistry from their collaboration at Leverkusen, which could give Liverpool an added advantage.

For Leverkusen, however, it will be a tough period – they will lose not only Wirtz and Frimpong, but also manager Xabi Alonso, and centre-back Jonathan Tah. – However, even if the BayArena is emptied of players and coaches, the account will be fuller than at any time in the club’s 120-year history.
