Andy Robertson was both frustrated and angry when Liverpool supporters chose to boo his friend Alexander-Arnold at Anfield. Salah and Van Dijk extended, the right-back chose to say goodbye and walk out the gate at Anfield for the big money at Real Madrid. There were therefore many Liverpool supporters who followed Alexander-Arnold’s debut in a Real shirt. The reactions on social media were not long in coming.
Xabi Alonso had barely unpacked his things in the Real Madrid office before heading to the Club World Cup and a battle for the big money. The debut ended with a lead-heavy 1-1 draw against the Saudi Arabian club, for Alexander-Arnold an even tougher debut after receiving €20 million to sign for the La Liga giant.

Alexander-Arnold made his debut from the start, but was brought to the bench after 65 minutes. At that time, the former Liverpool star had been completely anonymous.

Not many minutes after the end of the game, Liverpool supporters posted fresh messages on social media, describing Alexander-Arnold’s signing for Real Madrid as a very costly mistake. Here is a selection:
“Get rid of it! Konate and Salah don’t have to look after Trent’s unsteady defending anymore. They carried him for years. Now Real Madrid fans want to see what responsibility they have signed. Hope that £1 billion clause feels worth it when he gets scammed every week!”
“Well… they obviously haven’t seen Trent play before then! … they have to reduce his defensive shortcomings to get the best out of him with the ball – otherwise he will be a huge burden for Real Madrid.”
“Trent is still a big burden in defence, that’s not even the problem. Back at Liverpool, Szobo, Konate, Macca cover up his defensive problems. This Madrid team doesn’t play collective football, who will cover most of the time for him?”
“Laliga is going to eat Trent alive, and I can’t wait to see it.”

We wish Trent Alexander-Arnold all the best at Real Madrid, but hang on to the critics that the 26-year-old will have completely different working conditions outside Anfield.
