Mo Salah says he communicates a lot with Jürgen Klopp in his spare time, in fact more than before. Klopp will forever and always be a part of Liverpool, even in his new position as boss of Red Bull’s football venture. Still, when it comes to signings and tens of millions of euros, there is little help to be had from Klopp.
With Virgil van Dijk still not ready for an extension and the coming season in a Liverpool shirt, Liverpool are working in parallel on alternatives. One player who has been closely linked to the club in recent weeks is RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba.
The centre-back was brought from Lyon to Leipzig in 2023, and in a short space of time, the 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most solid centre-backs in the Bundesliga. Red Bull saw the potential and has secured a buyout clause of a solid 90 million euros.
In his debut season, the Frenchman was on the pitch for 41 games, this season has been partially amputated by a hamstring injury, but Lukeba has convinced several of the big clubs.
According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool are very interested in the 22-year-old, as are Real Madrid and Chelsea. Manchester United are also linked with the centre-back, but are nowhere near being able to compete for a €90 million signing.
Jürgen Klopp sits and pulls the strings at the overall level, can’t Michael Edwards at Liverpool just make a phone call to Jürgen and get an advantage? The German journalist reports Real Madrid are ahead of Liverpool and have put themselves in the driver’s seat towards signing.
Calling Jürgen doesn’t help here.
