Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo has a favourite in the Premier League and it is not surprising Liverpool. – Now he can, and we emphasize he can land at Anfield as early as January.
Barcelona could soon lose summer signing Dani Olmo for free. The Euro 2024 winner came from RB Leipzig to Camp Nou in the summer. The Mirror reports that Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are keen to sign the midfielder. Olmo is central to manager Hansi Flick, and has played 13 games with six goals and one assist so far.
Barcelona are battling financial problems – they had initially agreed to an initial six-month registration period, but if he is unable to be registered for the second half of the 2024/25 season, there is reportedly a clause in the player’s contract that allows him to leave the Spanish club for free next month.
The Liverpool Echo has written: “a player of such calibre can offer a much-needed boost heading deeper into the Premier League title race, so in the long term, his so-called best years as a footballer are yet to come.
“The Reds have openly chased a midfielder, but more of a defensive one. It was second Euro 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi until he flatly rejected the approach in the summer window.”
In the summer, after missing out on top goal Nico Williams, Barcelona spent as much as €62 million on RB Leipzig star Olmo on the back of his stellar Euro 2024 performances.
It was a huge outlay for a club that has had to pinch pennies lately, and it unsurprisingly took massive team manoeuvring to be able to register all the necessary players in La Liga.
Barcelona will not sign anyone in January
But that could be an obstacle for Liverpool. Barcelona made use of Article 77 of La Liga’s rules, which allows them to go over the spending limit by a certain percentage in the event of an injury. The club had used the same strategy earlier this summer when they signed Inigo Martinez instead of the injured Ronald Araujo.
The problem is that, as mentioned, it is only a temporary registration and Barcelona will have to find new ways to sign Olmo again in January. The most likely solution, of course, is to sell players.
According to Sport, Barcelona have informed Flick that no players will be signed and that the focus will instead be on registering players such as Olmo and Pau Victor.
That is, if Barcelona get their finances in order, Dani Olmo will disappear the opportunity for Liverpool, probably forever.
