Liverpool have discussed a potential summer purchase of Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic, who is spending the season on loan at Hamburg.

The Anfield club is said to be among several European clubs following the very promising Croatian centre-back after his impressive debut season in the Bundesliga.

Vuskovic is unlikely to play for Spurs next season due to the looming danger of relegation from the Premier League, as he reportedly wants to try his hand at a continental competition.

Tottenham signed Vuskovic already in 2023, but the “outstanding” Croatian stopper only officially became a Spurs player last summer, when he signed a contract that lasts until June 2030.

Liverpool target Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic

According to Bild, several Champions League clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, are now seriously considering Vuskovic after his impressive first season in Hamburg.

The 19-year-old defender is considered a “mega-talent” in European football and appears to be a concrete target for Barcelona, with former midfielder Ivan Rakitic recommending the club sign him.

Real Madrid are reportedly looking at Vuskovic as a potential alternative to Liverpool’s own Ibrahima Konaté, who is still of interest to Los Blancos before his contract expires.

If Konaté ends up leaving Anfield in the summer, the Reds are likely to be looking for a replacement, and have already discussed a possible purchase of Vuskovic internally.

Liverpool are working to replace Salah

Liverpool appear to be in for another hectic summer in the transfer market, as they will have to replace Mohamed Salah after his bombshell exit announcement.

On Tuesday, the Egyptian striker shared an emotional farewell video on his social media accounts, in which he confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Liverpool’s search for Salah’s successor appears to be well underway, with both RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise on their radar.

The Reds had an outstanding summer in terms of spending in 2025, spending £415 million on new players, including a club-record £125 million for striker Alexander Isak.

Why top clubs want Luka Vuskovic

Amid the growing interest in Vuskovic around Europe, here is the result of the search about his qualities:

– Elite potential at a young age: The centre-back made his debut for Hajduk Split’s first team as just 16 years old, and showed composure, physique and maturity far beyond his age.
– Ball-playing defender: Vuskovic is confident in driving the ball forward, making passes through the joints and getting the ball in his feet – qualities that modern top clubs prioritize in center backs.
– Size and defensive intelligence: At around 193 centimetres, he is dominant in the air, while also reading the game well, making him suitable for both high defensive play and possession-based systems.
