A journalist with knowledge of “everything that happens at Liverpool” has given a revealing update on Arne Slot and his future at the club, and this is linked to a revelation about the club’s transfer plans for the summer.
Slot has experienced a nightmarish title defence, where Liverpool were practically out of the game already in the autumn. Liverpool can still salvage the season by securing Champions League qualification and potentially winning a trophy as well.

However, with Manchester City as the next opponent in the FA Cup and PSG in the Champions League, the Reds are not favourites to progress in either competition.
There has been persistent speculation that Liverpool could get rid of Slot and instead hire Xabi Alonso at the end of the season if the Champions League spot slipped away.
However, a recent report by The Times’ Paul Joyce claimed that Liverpool have doubts about Alonso’s preferred style of play, which favours a back three.
Furthermore, Joyce revealed that Slot is said to have informed friends that he not only expects to be at Liverpool next year, but that he is confident that he will lead a team back to the top.
Now, a recent update from one of The Athletic’s Liverpool experts, James Pearce, has revealed Liverpool’s thoughts on Slot.
Despite acknowledging Liverpool’s many mistakes this season, Pearce revealed that the club management still believe Slot is the right man for the job, and that with a carefully planned transfer window in the summer, he will get the Reds back in contention for the biggest titles again next season.
Pearce wrote: “The decision-makers still have faith in him and believe that with the right reinforcements this summer, Slot can turn things around in the same way that Jürgen Klopp did after a disappointing fifth place finish in 2022-23.”
Liverpool finished fifth in Klopp’s penultimate season at Anfield and went trophy-free that season.
However, after revamping their entire midfield in the summer of 2023, the Reds won the League Cup in Klopp’s final year, and were involved in a battle for the title despite experiencing the worst of the injury crisis.
As for Liverpool’s current transfer plans, the journalist highlighted the club’s last summer transfer window where close to half a billion pounds were spent on mostly “technical players”.
At a time when the Premier League has become more robust, more set-piece-based and reliant on fast wingers who can hit their markers in one-on-one situations, Liverpool’s past signings have left the squad lacking in critical areas.
As a result, Pearce hinted that Liverpool’s plans for the coming summer will centre on adding “speed and dynamism” on the wings, as well as more dominant players who will make Slot’s team more “physical and direct”, and of course more effective on set pieces in both boxes.
In terms of wingers, Liverpool are expected to sign two new wingers, and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is quickly emerging as their main target.

According to Sky Germany, the Reds are becoming increasingly hopeful that they will secure the electric 19-year-old, and they will not be deterred by Leipzig’s huge €100 million price tag.
Journalist Philipp Hinze wrote on social media: “RB Leipzig will convince Yan Diomande to stay for another season, but the Bundesliga club is still preparing for big bids.
Leipzig is sticking: the price tag is 100 million euros or more. Contract until 2030. They want to keep Diomande, but know that it will be extremely difficult. The high price tag could scare away one or two interested clubs.”
Liverpool is NOT one of those clubs that will be put off by that price tag.
