We thought Steven Gerrard was playing his way out of the list of candidates to manage Liverpool after the desert football fade, but over the past six months, the club icon has appeared on the rumour mill as a candidate to replace Arne Slot, if things went straight south. Gerrard has also started talking like a Liverpool manager, with words of wisdom in connection with the Salah/Slot controversy. In December, Gerrard stated directly that he is ready, if the Liverpool management calls. At the beginning of March, he also got involved in Slot’s team selection. Now Stevie is withdrawing a little, but not far.

In Liverpool circles, there was previously talk that Steven Gerrard could take over for a period before a more high-profile coach like Xabi Alonso steps in during the summer. Arne Slot has been allowed to stay in the post, stays on his feet in the Champions League, but stumbles on in the Premier League. Gerrard is now talking about his role and ambition at Liverpool.

-I have a fantastic connection with the club, I always have – and probably an even stronger connection since I left. They have always been incredible. If there’s any way I can help the club, I’ll always try to do it if I can,” begins the Liverpool icon of The Overlap.

“But what you probably want to know is, would I ever want to be the manager of Liverpool? Of course – that would be a dream. Would I be ready for it right now for a while? Probably not.

Steven Gerrard emphasizes he does not want to see Arne Slot “thrown out” now.

-I really want to answer this correctly. I want to give Slot the opportunity to get Liverpool back on track. I think he deserves it,” Gerrard concluded.

It was the politically correct answer, but there is little doubt Gerrard is drooling over the Liverpool job.
