Nine losses in the last twelve games. This follows a Premier League title last season and £450 million invested in reinforcements. Not surprisingly, there is a two-tonne pressure on Arne Slot’s shoulders. The Dutchman should still have confidence, but in the world of football, results are perishable. What success you had as a coach last season suddenly means little when sporting and financial success is threatened. We are of course concerned about whether Jürgen Klopp returns, if the Slot is sent to the gate.

It was predictable that Klopp will be linked with a spectacular return to Anfield when Liverpool are struggling. Master Klopp has got the rest he needed, signals that the German is getting mentally ready to return to coaching have increased in strength. Pep Guardiola said it dryly, when Klopp in 2024 told the world he is “quitting” as a coach: “He’s like me, he needs it, and he’s coming back”.

Will this “coming back” be at Liverpool?

According to The Guardian , Klopp as a type of coach is no longer relevant at Anfield anyway.

The English newspaper reported on Friday that Slot works differently than Klopp did, in the sense that although the Dutchman has a say in the team when it comes to transfers, he only works within a system introduced by owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

-FSG does not want an all-powerful manager in charge. [Michael] Edwards probably wouldn’t have agreed to return to the club in March 2024, if that had been the plan, claims Guardian journalist Andy Hunter.
