Liverpool have made the signing of a deep-lying midfielder their priority in January, after failing to sign their first goal Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in the summer.

Madrid are open to selling Tchouameni to fund a large summer transfer market, with big names such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alphonso Davies and Erling Braut Haaland on the agenda.

Madrid also want a central midfielder with better creativity and ball-playing skills to replace Tchouameni. After Toni Kroos resigned in the summer, Madrid have lacked a ball-playing central midfielder who can construct and dictate the game from deep.

Initially, Madrid had planned to sign Rodri from Man City, but his ACL injury means they are now looking elsewhere.

Tchouameni, 24, moved to the Santiago Bernabeu two years ago from Monaco for €100 million.

He has been linked with several Premier League clubs in recent months, and Arsenal are also said to be monitoring his situation in the Spanish capital. Tchouameni has made 102 appearances since joining Real Madrid from AS Monaco, scoring three goals and winning seven major trophies.

Liverpool are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League under new manager Arne Slot. The Reds believe that a big summer signing can make the difference by allowing them to go all the way and win the title this season.
