Liverpool are considering offering one of their promising young talents as part of a possible transfer deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The Anfield club won the Premier League last season under Arne Slot’s first year as manager, after he took over for Jürgen Klopp.

Last summer, Liverpool signed just one player – Federico Chiesa from Juventus for £10 million – but it didn’t hurt the season, as they won the league by a whopping 10 points.

This summer’s transfer window, however, Liverpool have been more active, with three major signings already in place for the coming season. Jeremie Frimpong was brought in from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million to fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer to Real Madrid.

Defensive reinforcements on the stairs The
centre-back position is still an area where Liverpool could conceivably bring in reinforcements, to strengthen the competition around the first-team duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.

Liverpool also have Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez in their squad, but the former has been linked with a move to Leverkusen, while the latter has struggled with injury problems.

Guehi on his way out?
One of the players who could be sold this summer is Palace defender Guehi, who is now entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park. He won the FA Cup with the “Eagles” last season.

This means that Palace now have their last chance to get a significant sum for the England international – or risk losing him for free in 12 months’ time.

Liverpool are now considering including striker Ben Doak as part of the deal for Guehi.

Doak, 19, spent last season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, where he scored three goals in 24 appearances. The newspaper reports that Palace want around £50 million for Guehi, while Liverpool value Doak at around £25 million – which will require negotiations.

Liverpool signed Doak from Celtic in 2022 and paid approximately £600,000 in compensation to the Scottish club due to the player’s young age.

Strong competition
Newcastle United made several bids for Guehi last summer, with the highest being around £70 million, but Palace rejected all offers.

Both Newcastle and Manchester United are said to be among the clubs still interested in Guehi’s services.

A potential swap for Doak could therefore be a brilliant move by Liverpool to secure one of the league’s most sought-after defensive talents at a more affordable price.
