On Wednesday, Liverpool disappeared from the Champions League in a game where the Reds and PSG both played their way to advancement. The smoke has barely settled at Anfield, now it must be reprogrammed and made ready for the League Cup final on Sunday. For Trent Alexander-Arnold, this has been a very disappointing week so far with a loss to PSG and injury in the second half.
It helps a little with a cup title on Sunday, but the 26-year-old knows Liverpool will be weaker without him on the right wing. On Friday, Arne Slot confirmed that Liverpool will have to do without the key player.
“Trent is not available. He will not be in the final. His injury still needs to be examined further to determine how long it will take, but we expect him to be back before the end of the season,” the Liverpool manager said at Friday’s press conference.
Ibrahima Konaté also had to leave the pitch against PSG, but for the Frenchman there is still an opening for Sunday’s final against Newcastle.
“I expect him to train with us today (Friday) but we’ll see how it goes,” says Slot.
