Trent Alexander-Arnold could be on his way away from Real Madrid and back to England, following news that a Premier League club has held talks with intermediaries about the defender.
The 27-year-old joined the Santiago Bernabeu club last summer after leaving his childhood club Liverpool, when he let his contract at Anfield expire. Alexander-Arnold scored 23 goals in 354 appearances for Liverpool, and his trophy haul includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

But his decision to leave the club where he had spent his entire career divided opinions among Liverpool fans. Some understood the choice to go to Real Madrid, while others were angry that he turned his back on them.
Alexander-Arnold was originally supposed to join Real Madrid for free last summer, but Real ended up paying a transfer fee of around £8.4 million for the defender to play for Los Blancos in the FIFA Club World Cup.
So far at Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold has only played 11 games for his new club. One of these was against Liverpool in the Champions League, where he was booed by the home fans on his return to Anfield.
Injury has put a damper on Alexander-Arnold’s impact in his debut season in the Spanish capital, but apart from that, he has only started five games in La Liga when he has been injury-free and available.
Now, reports have surfaced linking him to a sensational return to the Premier League and one of Liverpool’s rivals this summer.
Manchester City have been active in the January transfer window, signing striker Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £64m and signing defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for £20m.
And while Alexander-Arnold – who has four goals in 34 caps for England – is not believed to be on City’s shopping list for this month, reports suggest that the defender is a regular target for the summer transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, intermediaries have held talks with Pep Guardiola’s club about the possibility of signing Alexander-Arnold, as City are looking for a new right-back.
“Although no formal inquiry has been made, it is understood that the Premier League champions are assessing the situation carefully.”
Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2031, after he signed a six-year contract with the Santiago Bernabeu club.
