The interest in centre-back Dayot Upamecano is well documented, but now winger Serge Gnabry has also been on the radar of the bosses at Anfield.

According to European media, Liverpool have joined the hunt for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry, who could become a free player next summer.

The Reds are working intensely on their strategy for the 2026 summer transfer window and are aware that the disappointing start to the season could force reinforcements.

Among the players being considered is Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano, whose soon-to-be-expiring contract makes him a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konaté – who himself has contract problems.

But Upamecano is not the only Bayern player in Liverpool’s spotlight. Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport was the first to reveal the interest in Gnabry, whose contract situation has also attracted Juventus’ attention.

Italian media suggest that Liverpool are considered clear favourites to sign Gnabry due to their relative financial strength. But the renowned German journalist and BILD editor Christian Falk insists that the competition is far from settled.

Can Liverpool sign Serge Gnabry?
Falk confirms that both Liverpool and Juventus have shown interest in Gnabry and that both clubs have made contact. However, he points out that the winger’s high salary poses a significant challenge for potential buyers.

Gnabry is one of Bayern Munich’s highest-paid players through his current deal from 2022. His contract expires at the end of the season, and the Bundesliga champions have made it clear that they will not offer him a similar deal.

It is believed that Gnabry may be willing to accept a salary reduction to extend his stay at Bayern. But the difficult negotiations have opened the door for both Liverpool and Juventus to secure his services.

Gnabry is originally a right winger – and still one of the world’s best at his position when he is fit. This season, however, he has shown impressive versatility both as a left winger and in midfield, with four goals and four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.

Bayern want to keep Gnabry and are still working on a new deal. However, if the deadlock lasts for another six weeks, both Liverpool and Juventus will be able to begin formal negotiations with the 30-year-old.

As a potential free signing, Gnabry can expect a higher salary from their European suitors, as no transfer fee has to be paid.
