It is not certain that Liverpool will be able to wait until the end of the season to end their working relationship with manager Arne Slot.

Arne Castle with an unwanted record

“Experts” believe that Liverpool should give Manchester United competition for Julian Nagelsmann, as both clubs consider entering the coaching carousel in the summer.

Arne Slot is under pressure at Liverpool after a surprising 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday that sent them down to fifth place with 49 points. Chelsea are just one point behind the Reds, while Slot’s team could also be overtaken by Brentford and Everton if they don’t take care.

Failure to reach the top five and qualify for next season’s Champions League could prompt Liverpool to consider a break with Slot, given how poor their title defence has been.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have appointed Michael Carrick as their interim manager and the former midfielder is doing a fantastic job.

United could give Carrick the job permanently, but they want to talk to more established options first. The Anfield Index has explained why Liverpool must hijack German national team manager Nagelsmann before their rivals. (Personally, I don’t understand the attraction)

“Not once in the last decade have Liverpool lost ten Premier League games in a single season. Now, under Slot, they have lost ten, with seven games left to play,” they write.

“The person they want is not available yet. But he will be very soon, and it feels like he’s on his way to Anfield.

“That man is Julian Nagelsmann. His qualifications are well-established, from Bayern Munich to RB Leipzig, and now with the German national team.

“The appeal is obvious. His tactical identity is close to the high intensity that Jürgen Klopp left behind.”

The report adds that under Slot, Liverpool’s pressure is “everywhere”. In contrast, Nagelsmann is hailed as an “extremely efficient” coach who will correct this major problem.

Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool have contacted Xabi Alonso, who is the favourite to take over at Anfield.

Sebastian Hoeness has also been added to Liverpool’s wish list because of the good job he has done at Stuttgart.

Nagelsmann is considered by top clubs
However, our sources insist that Liverpool management will wait until the end of the season before making a final decision on Slot. They don’t want to make a change that could potentially ruin the final months of the season, despite the criticism Slot receives.

Nagelsmann has recently “ticked an important box” for United. But he is currently focused on leading Germany in the World Cup, before potentially returning to club football.

Last week, we confirmed that Carrick is in pole position to get the United job, but talks will also be held with other candidates.

“Michael Carrick impresses – the way he works, his attitude and his commitment to the role. This is what will get him the job, not opinions, whichever way they point,” our transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, confirmed.

“This is Manchester United. It’s a club that’s a pressure cooker – it always will be. There will always be comments, both negative and positive. But I am told that it will not affect the club’s decision in any way.

“The club is working the coaching front, and although Carrick appears to be the number one candidate, the management insists that they make thorough assessments of all the options available to them.”

Names such as Roberto De Zerbi, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola could also be contacted by United management in the coming months.
