Liverpool are planning four or five “significant” signings after insider sources reveal the positions to be renewed
Liverpool are planning to go big in the transfer market next summer as well, despite spending £450m last summer and breaking their transfer record twice.

We can now reveal that Liverpool are planning as many as five “significant” new signings at the end of the season, along with which positions will be strengthened.
Liverpool emptied their wallets before the current season when they invested heavily in players such as Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, to name just three. Wirtz set Liverpool’s transfer record at £116 million (including add-on clauses), before the record was taken by Isak a few months later for a whopping £125 million.
Still, it’s important to remember that Liverpool also said goodbye to a whole host of stars, many of whom were key pieces in the squad or guaranteed starters.
The most prominent exits saw Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid and Luis Díaz move to Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, Diogo Jota also passed away.
As a result, Liverpool’s squad may have received a boost in top quality but suffered a loss in overall depth.
Hopes of a title recapture were quickly dashed as Arne Slot has produced worse numbers over his last 17 league games than Roy Hodgson did in his chaotic but mercifully short spell.
And with Liverpool’s weaknesses being visible to everyone this season, transfer expert Dean Jones has revealed that the Reds are ready to hit the market again next summer.
Having made significant profits from the sales of Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton, Díaz, Ben Doak and Darwin Nunez, to name just seven, Liverpool are in a position to reopen their chequebook in a big way without running afoul of PSR rules.

According to Jones, new signings in January are unlikely. Instead, it will be in the summer that Liverpool will show their financial muscle.
“Liverpool could be looking towards four or five more significant signings at the end of this season and that will mean more adjustment time for the squad ,” Jones told TEAMtalk.
“It was a big summer for them in 2025, and it has taken time for their signings to find their footing. It’s still tough for some of them.”
“But sources indicate that they are still very active in the market for a centre-back, despite the fact that they chose not to get involved in a battle with Manchester City for the signing of Marc Guehi.”
“And there are also hints that Liverpool will sign a new right-back, left-back and a central midfielder. They could even sign a new winger on the right side if Mohamed Salah leaves. It’s quite alarming when you think about the magnitude, and there are also still question marks over Arne Slot.”
“He was supposed to sign a new contract before the end of this season. Will they still carry it out?”
A new right-back could indicate that Liverpool are choosing to use Jeremie Frimpong more as an attacking player than a defender going forward.
A new left-back will coincide with Andy Robertson leaving the club. The Scot has a contract until the end of the summer, and with Milos Kerkez struggling so far, the question for Liverpool will be whether they should spend a lot on a new starter, or whether they believe in Kerkez and thus sign a cheaper reserve for the Hungarian.
As for Slot, a new update from a top Liverpool journalist has revealed the club’s plans to dismiss the Dutchman.
Latest news on Arne Slot’s farewell while Xabi Alonso waits in the wings
As mentioned earlier, Slot is producing worse numbers than Hodgson over his last 17 league games.
The Reds have only won five games in that period, averaging 1.24 points per game. Hodgson’s 20 league games as Liverpool boss yielded an average of 1.25 points per game.
Yet, despite this, and despite the fact that Liverpool failed to beat any of the newly promoted teams at home for the first time since 1980, Liverpool have NO PLANS to sack Slot.
That’s according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, who stressed that Liverpool will not follow in the footsteps of Manchester United and Chelsea by sacking their manager.
However, with Xabi Alonso now available on the manager market, Pearce stressed that there is now a credible opportunity for owners FSG to turn to, which was not the case a few months ago when questions about Slot’s future were first asked.
Pearce wrote , “If [Slot] is going to stop the loss of support among fans, he needs to find momentum, and fast. There seemed to be no obvious substitute for those who demanded change. That is no longer the case after Xabi Alonso’s departure from Real Madrid.”
“Alonso, who has a close connection to Liverpool from his time playing on Merseyside between 2004 and 2009, would have been a strong candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp in 2024 if he hadn’t promised to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another year.”
“Slot then emerged as a clear first choice for FSG’s CEO of football, Michael Edwards, and sporting director Richard Hughes in their data-driven search.”
“It is unclear when or where Alonso will look for a new challenge, but with every setback Liverpool suffers, the noise will increase. Slot can only mitigate it by finding solutions to the problems he faces.”
“Qualification for the Champions League is the minimum requirement, and it is far from certain with United one point behind and Chelsea two points away.”
