Although all reason says that Real Madrid should keep their captain Luka Modric for another season to make the transfer of Xabi Alonso from Carlo Ancelotti easier.
Real Madrid are tough on players towards the end of their careers and despite Alonso’s early wish for veteran Luka Modric to get another season.

Luka Modric offered what could be one of the summer’s most surprising transfers.
Luka Modric, six-time Champions League winner and Ballon d’Or winner, is now linked with a transfer that could be one of the most spectacular of the year. Earlier this month, the 39-year-old midfielder announced that he will leave Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Modric, who will remain in Madrid until the Club World Cup is over, has recently become an investor and co-owner of Championship club Swansea City – and according to reports, has bought a five-bedroom house for over one million pounds in the Welsh city.
Despite this, he has no plans to retire. In fact, Spanish Relevo claims that Modric has offers from both the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer for next season.

Surprising Rangers link
But in an unexpected twist, rumours surfaced of a bold move to Scottish club Rangers. They have held talks with former Real Madrid coach Davide Ancelotti – Carlo Ancelotti’s son – about becoming their new manager.
According to the BBC, Ancelotti is at the top of Rangers’ wish list, and a deal could be “ready in the next few days” after negotiations.
Modric will play the 2026 World Cup
Even though he turns 40 next year, Modric has no plans to retire. Croatian 24sata claims that the midfielder wants to play in the 2026 World Cup for his country – if they qualify – and will be in “optimal shape” for the championship.
This could mean that he is looking for a club where he gets regular playing time to stay in top shape.
A move to Rangers would be one of the most surprising of the year, but with Davide Ancelotti potentially as the new manager and Modric’s desire to continue at the top level, it’s not entirely unthinkable.
Will it be Scotland, Saudi Arabia or the United States for the legend? The answer may come soon.
