Antony will soon be history at Old Trafford. It is initially heading towards loan to Real Betis after 12 goals in 96 games. The Brazilian has been one of Manchester United’s biggest flop signings, but much of the blame must be placed on Erik ten Hag. Antony is no better than he is, it was Ten Hag who pushed through to a transfer fee Ajax management hardly thought possible.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously said Manchester United scouts considered Antony a £25-30 million player. The Telegraph reports the same. The transfer to Manchester United ended at around £86 million.

Not to be believed, even if Antony should have done twice as well as what he has delivered since 2022. What is now going to frustrate even more – if possible – is that Manchester United had put a cap on the transfer fee.

According to the English media, the ceiling was £55 million, i.e. twice the market value. Erik ten Hag is said to have emphasized the importance of Antony in his plans for Manchester United, the management fell flat and allowed themselves to be pressured by Ajax to around £86 million.

£30 million above the max United had set for Antony signing. Antony was doomed to fail in relation to the expectations that lay in the price tag. Thank you Erik.
