There are very few who would dispute our statement that former Barcelon, Roma and Celta Vigo manager Luis Enrique is the world’s best active manager. – He lifted Spain back as national team manager after a period of deep crisis and he has done the same and a little more for the French big club Paris Saint-Germain. If there is anyone who can bring Manchester United to the top of the world of football clubs, it is the Spanish manager.
Paris Saint-Germain have offered the 55-year-old the deal of all time, not only in terms of money, but also strong co-determination in the transfer market. (There is talk of 60 million euros and a right of veto).
It is not at all certain that neither big money nor power can make Luis Enrique stay in the French capital. – There is talk of a PSG exit and a possible and very sensational deal with Manchester United.

The chances of Manchester United making Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique their next permanent manager have increased, and a journalist is now explaining why a farewell from the French capital could be a real possibility.
Enrique has done an outstanding job at PSG, helping to shift the club’s focus away from superstar signings and instead build a team of talented young players. Under the Spaniard’s leadership, players such as Vitinha, Ousmane Dembélé, Nuno Mendes, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and João Neves have developed into elite players of the highest class.
Last season, PSG finally got the wait to end when they secured the Champions League triumph. In addition, the club swept away all three national trophies in an unprecedented quadruple.
The Paris club are chasing more success this season, but other big clubs are hoping to lure Enrique away from the Parc des Princes. He has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Manchester United job if INEOS chooses not to give it to Michael Carrick permanently.
Luis Enrique’s Career Highlights
Luis Enrique has had an outstanding career both as a player and a coach. As a player, he won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup with Barcelona, and he represented Spain in three World Cup finals. As a coach, he led Barcelona to a historic treble in 2015 – La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League – and followed that up with two more titles in the following seasons. After a spell as Spanish national team manager, where he took the team to the Euro semi-finals in 2021, he took over PSG in 2023. There, he has made a name for himself by renewing the club’s identity, investing in young talents and ultimately leading them to the long-awaited Champions League title in 2025.
Major update on Enrique to United
Miguel Delaney, chief football correspondent at The Independent, has given a big update on Enrique to United in his newsletter.
“Sources at Manchester United say that Luis Enrique is the name that is being mentioned more and more often, and the club is said to be willing to make a serious attempt to secure him,” Delaney wrote.
“One might wonder why he would leave PSG now, but there is growing speculation that he will leave in the summer, and he has long expressed a desire to work in the Premier League.”
On March 11, Tyrone Marshall revealed in the Manchester Evening News that Enrique is an option for United, as he “speaks excellent English”. Whether he can be persuaded to go to Old Trafford, however, remains to be seen.
The fact that United look set to qualify for next season’s Champions League will increase their chances of bringing the 55-year-old tactician to the club. Enrique is also among four managers being considered for the Chelsea job if Liam Rosenior is sacked. – But the biggest one, a new and insanely well-paid continuation at PSG is supposed to be cancelled.

De Zerbi and Iraola also on United’s radar
If Enrique takes over United, it will please Gary Neville, who has repeatedly called for the club to hire a truly elite manager to attract the world’s best players.
Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann and Andoni Iraola are also in the running for the United job. We understand that De Zerbi would rather coach United than a Tottenham in crisis, while Iraola recently dampened speculation that he will return to Athletic Club.
Graeme Bailey, gave an update on Carrick’s future last week.
“Michael Carrick impresses – the way he works, his attitude and his commitment to the role. This is what will get him the job, not opinions, no matter which way they point,” he confirmed.
“This is Manchester United. It’s a club that’s a pressure cooker – it always will be. There will always be comments, both negative and positive. But I am told that it will not affect the club’s decision in any way.
“The club is working the coaching front, and although Carrick appears to be the number one candidate, the management insists that they make thorough assessments of all the options available to them.”
