We’re just days away from the transfer window closing, and Alexander Isak has made his feelings clear about a move to Liverpool after representatives from Newcastle spoke to the player at his home.

Ahead of Monday’s game between Newcastle and Liverpool, Isak spoke to a delegation from the Public Investment Fund, along with Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben, about his future at St. James’ Park.

Earlier this month, Newcastle turned down a £110 million formal offer from reigning Premier League champions Liverpool for the absent striker – a decision that has reportedly angered Isak.

The 25-year-old made a statement claiming that Newcastle had broken promises to him amid rumours of a British record transfer to Anfield.

“Promises were made, and the club has known my position for a long time,” he said. “To now act as if these problems are just popping up is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot continue.”

Alexander Isak has yet to play for Newcastle United this season.

A week later, Isak has again made his position clear on the situation – he wants to leave Newcastle United before the window closes, and has reiterated his desire to join Liverpool.

This comes according to a new report from The Telegraph, which claims that Isak is apparently determined to continue the strike until he gets a transfer, having missed previous games against Aston Villa and Liverpool.

However, Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a new offer after their initial bid was rejected, but are “waiting for encouragement from Newcastle’s board” before proceeding.

The report adds: “However, it is understood that Liverpool are not willing to make a new offer if there is no hope of it being accepted and will not pay anything close to Newcastle’s asking price of £150 million.”

Newcastle reject Isak’s claims of “promises”
As things stand, Newcastle refuse to approve the transfer.

Last week, in response to Isak’s statement, Newcastle stated that they were “disappointed” with the player.

“We are clear in our response that Alex is still under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer,” they said.

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand that players have their own desires, and we listen to their views.

“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into account the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions, and we have been clear that the conditions for a sale this summer have not occurred.”

The statement added: “We do not foresee that these conditions will be met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions, and we strive to keep our family feeling. Alex is still part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
