After a comfortable 3-0 win over reigning champions Liverpool in their last game, City find themselves in second place behind Arsenal – just four points behind the leaders after 11 games played.
Manchester City revamped their squad this summer, with seven new players as reinforcements, including Gianluigi Donnarumma, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, James Trafford and Tijjani Reijnders.
Nevertheless, new reports claim that the club could go after one of their top targets in the January window. According to TEAMTalk, City are “very interested” in Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and believe he could be a perfect fit for their style of play.
The 23-year-old’s speed and combination of offensive and defensive qualities make him an exceptionally attractive target.
Swap agreement in the pipeline?
Newcastle are reluctant to sell him and have the England international tied until 2028. But it could be a way to tempt Newcastle to let Livramento go, given that Newcastle are very keen on Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.
Newcastle proposed to Trafford in the summer, but City matched the £31m bid by triggering a repurchase clause to bring him back to the Etihad Stadium.
After two defeats in their first three games, City brought in Donnarumma, and the Italian has solidly displaced Trafford as City’s first choice – with only one loss. Newcastle are understood to still be “very interested” in Trafford and are leading the race towards the January window, talks have already taken place.
The weakened club Wolves have already been in contact, but Newcastle seem to be best placed if Trafford are to move on in search of regular game time.
City could use him as a counterweight in a deal for Livramento, who Newcastle bought from Southampton for £32 million in 2023.
The former Chelsea player is exceptionally versatile and can play equally well on both the left and right sides of the defence.
Pep Guardiola has converted midfielders Nico O’Reilly and Matheus Nunes as his first choice full-backs this season, and the duo have been among the team’s best players in recent times.
