Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli have all signed permanent deals with the Etihad Stadium side, and now it looks like City are on the verge of securing their fifth summer signing.

Record transfer for the Eliteserien
Previous reports indicated that City were making progress in their pursuit of 18-year-old Nypan, and now The Athletic reports that the clubs have agreed a transfer fee of €14.6 million with no further clauses or resale commissions.

If the transfer is completed, this will be the most expensive player sale ever from the Norwegian Eliteserien.

Personal terms remain
Personal terms have not yet been clarified, but there is a proposal for a five-year contract until June 2030.

Planned loan
Upon completion of the transfer, it is expected that Manchester City will send Sverre Nypan on loan next season to continue his development, before he eventually integrates into Guardiola’s first team.

Beaten competitors
Earlier this year, Nypan visited several top clubs during the Norwegian winter window, including Premier League clubs City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

In April, it was reported that Aston Villa were set to sign Nypan after sending representatives to Norway to present their vision to the teenager.

Girona as a possible loan destination
City’s sister club Girona, which is also part of the City Football Group, has also shown interest in Nypan. It is believed that City may choose to send him to the Spanish club on loan next season.

Nypan’s career so far
Nypan is considered one of Europe’s greatest talents after impressing as a first-team player for Rosenborg.

Since his debut in 2022 as Rosenborg’s youngest player ever (15 years old), Nypan has played 70 games at senior level with 14 goals and 11 assists.

In the 2025 season, the versatile midfielder has played nine games for Rosenborg, who are currently in third place in the Eliteserien. He also has five games for Norway’s U21 national team
