Manchester City had gone seven straight games without a win before Wednesday’s meeting with Nottingham Forest. Phil Foden was ill-replaced by Kevin de Bruyne, who made his first Premier League start since September. And it turned out to be successful.
The Light Blues opened strongly in front of the home crowd and took the lead relatively immediately. The aforementioned De Bruyne headed down a cross to Bernardo Silva, who from close range easily made it 1-0.
Moments later, Nottingham Forest slipped through with a dangerous chance. A low cross ended up at the feet of Morgan Gibbs-White who shot at one, but Ortega in the home goal made a sweaty one-handed save.
The visitors played up the game after the goal in search of an equalizer. After just under half an hour, Chris Wood was gifted with a free-kick, but the Forest striker’s finish went wide.
31 minutes had been played when Kevin De Bruyne, who made his first start since September, received the ball in the attacking penalty area and thumped in 2-0.
In the second half, Manchester City extended their lead further. Jérémy Doku received the ball on the left wing, turned inside the pitch and scored the Light Blues’ third goal of the evening.
Anthony Elanga played from the start for Nottingham Forest in the closing minutes he came close to reducing. The Swedish winger got a good shooting position in the attacking sixteen-metre box, but the finish he growled just over the far crossbar.
Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 to get their first win since October. The Light Blues are fourth in the Premier League table.
