Manchester City want to take advantage of the star’s fruitless contract negotiations and bring him to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Manchester City are willing to pay a world-record sum to secure one of their main goals this summer.

Following an influx of players in the summer, City further strengthened their squad in the January window by bringing in Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guéhi from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively.
The duo have brought extra quality to Pep Guardiola’s team and helped them closer to Arsenal in the fight for the Premier League title.
But it seems that City want to continue shopping in the Premier League, and they are still working on signing Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento.
According to Graeme Bailey of TEAMTalk, City have had their attention on Livramento since the summer, after being impressed by his performances for the Magpies.
With his speed and energy, they believe he could be the long-term replacement for Kyle Walker.
Matheus Nunes has developed into an excellent right-back at City and made the position his own. However, Livramento is considered a significant upgrade and he can also play left-back, where Nico O’Reilly had been a substitute until Rayan Aït-Nouri settled in.
City are prepared to pay a record sum to sign Livramento, and Newcastle are determined to hold out for £70m if they fail to commit him to a new contract.
The former Chelsea and Southampton player’s current deal runs until 2028.
City paid £50 million to sign Walker in 2017 and paid a British record sum of £57 million to sign João Cancelo from Juventus in 2019.
The world record sum for a full-back is Achraf Hakimi’s £60 million transfer from Inter Milan to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
City’s potential Livramento deal is likely to surpass this, following after they set a world record for a centre-back when they signed Joško Gvardiol in 2023.
Livramento has played three times for England, making his debut in a 5-0 win against the Republic of Ireland in November 2024.
City in the driver’s seat to sign new England star
The report also notes that City are hoping to win the battle for another England star, Elliot Anderson.
Anderson, a former teammate of Livramento at Newcastle, has garnered rave reviews for his performances at Nottingham Forest and is now a starter under Thomas Tuchel for England.
Anderson is admired by a number of clubs, including Manchester United. And while he is expected to cost a hefty sum, City reportedly believe they are best positioned to secure his signature this summer.
