It seems like Manchester City really don’t want to sell Norwegian right winger Oscar Bobb as they are demanding a sum that is more than double what Transfermarkt thinks he is worth. – Without a number of injuries, we, like many others, believe that the sky blues’ price tag would probably have been a bit low.

Until now, there was only one thing that would prevent a transfer to the Bundesliga, that Manchester City would put in place a replacement.

Manchester City confirmed the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5m on Friday, after the Ghanaian passed a medical test in Manchester on Thursday. – That was the start of Oscar Bobb’s talks.

After starting each of Manchester City’s first three Premier League games this season, Bobb has struggled to get regular game time, as the likes of Phil Foden and Jérémy Doku found their best form and established himself as one of the first names on Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Bobb broke through after scoring a winning goal in injury time for the Blues away to Newcastle in December 2023 – a crucial away win for Manchester City on their way to a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The Oslo striker, who came through Manchester City’s academy ranks, spent almost the entire 2024/25 season on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg in training in the days following Bobb’s big game in Manchester City’s FA Community Shield win over Manchester United.

After briefly returning to game readiness in the spring of 2025, Bobb suffered a hamstring injury that delayed his return to a substitute appearance in City’s 2-0 win over Leicester City in April, with the Blues ending what Guardiola has repeatedly classified as his most challenging season in the third-place Premier League table.

Bobb made a fine start to the season, impressing in City’s 4-0 away win over Wolves on opening day, but has since failed to live up to expectations, while the management at the Etihad Stadium is receiving interest in academy graduates as the January transfer window progresses. The striker is currently rehabilitating from an injury he sustained against Brentford in December.

With Semenyo’s arrival, competition in the wide attacking areas is expected to intensify, and Bobb’s development will be best served by an exit from the Etihad Stadium. Borussia Dortmund expresses strong interest in the Norwegian international.

As we wrote in Sporten.com a few days ago, the process has stalled after an “intense internal discussion” about Bobb, the Norwegian player is considered “unlikely” due to his price tag.

It is claimed that the signing of the versatile winger would end up costing around €70 million, thus placing Bobb well out of Dortmund’s reach, with a fee consisting of an initial transfer payment, salary and agent fees.

Manchester City will stand firm on their valuation of Bobb, who is under a long-term contract with the club and could still play a role for Guardiola in the second half of the season as the Blues battle for trophies on four fronts.

City’s Premier League title chances have been put under question since the New Year, with Guardiola and colleagues still seeking the first win of 2026, against the backdrop of three consecutive draws against Sunderland, Chelsea and Brighton in the last week and a half.
