Manchester United want to start the rebuild with authority and have decided to kickstart the process with two strategic signings: Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez and Viktor Gyökeres. The board is working to finalise both transfers for a combined sum of €100 million, in a clear attempt to reverse the trend after one of the club’s most uninspiring seasons in a long time.

With Rúben Amorim confirmed as the new manager, United have entered the transfer market with determination. The Portuguese coach has had a direct influence on operations and prioritised key positions to strengthen a team that failed to qualify for European football and was particularly disappointed in the Premier League as well as with the loss in the Europa League final.

Manchester United are targeting Dibu Martínez and Gyökeres

In the goalkeeper counter, the club has made a choice. Emiliano Martínez is very close to a move from Aston Villa to Old Trafford. The 32-year-old world champion with Argentina is the designated candidate to take over for an unstable Onana, who has disappointed since his arrival. Discussions with the Birmingham club are going well, and the transfer could land at around €30 million.

On the offensive front, the main target is Viktor Gyökeres. The Swede, who impressed this season for Sporting Lisbon, has piqued United’s interest, and the club is willing to pay the €70 million Sporting are demanding. Despite the fact that the “Red Devils” do not play in Europe, the striker is positive about the project.

With these two heavy reinforcements, Manchester United are aiming to turn the ship around and regain the competitiveness of a squad undergoing a full rebuild.
