Despite spending over £60 million on each of their star players, the Red Devils are planning to bring in more attacking players when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Ahead of Man United’s game against Newcastle United, Carrick outlined the club’s transfer plans for the summer and revealed that a left winger could be on their radar.
Asked about signing a left winger in the summer, Carrick said: “It’s something to look at [signing a left winger]. I think Matheus can play in that position. Amad can do it too. We have very good options across the attacking line.”
Just days after Carrick’s comments, a surprising name has emerged as a potential candidate to fill that spot.
According to The Daily Mail, Man United have added Marcus Tavernier to their list of left-wing targets for the summer.
Tavernier has excelled for Bournemouth this season with six goals and five assists.
He joined the club in the summer of 2022 and has a contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2029.
According to the report, he could be valued at around £40 million, and Bournemouth could be willing to sell the 26-year-old as they have been willing to “bargain” over the years to make a profit before discovering new talent for lower sums.
Tavernier is also attracting interest from Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, who made requests in January.
Man United will follow developments and their final decision will be determined by where they finish this season as they aim for a Champions League spot.
Champions League qualification will help Man United beat their rivals to players like Tavernier, but they managed to sign the aforementioned Šeško, Cunha and Mbeumo without Europe’s premier club competition.
However, if they miss out on Champions League football, they may have to sell players to generate funds before acquiring new talent.
