Manchester United are intensifying their search for a replacement for André Onana who has been uneven ever since he arrived from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.
The
2024/2025 season was very disappointing for Manchester United. Not only did Ruben Amorim’s side finish in a disappointing 15th place in the Premier League, but they also lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.

But Manchester United are determined to recover from last year’s slumps and have already been active in the transfer market this summer.
Matheus Cunha has been brought in from Wolves, where Amorim plans to use the Brazilian striker as one of his two attacking playmakers. Manchester United are also in talks to sign winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, but there they face stiff competition from Tottenham who have just hired Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s manager until a couple of days ago. – And of course a new goalkeeper.
André Onana joined United under Erik ten Hag, but the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s performances have been far from impressive.

Martinez wanted as new number one
TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, reported on May 23 that United are seriously interested in signing Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
Martínez’s time at Villa is said to be over, and that the Argentine international goalkeeper will leave Unai Emery’s team this summer.
Journalist Leo Paradizo has reported on social media that United are chasing Martínez, and confirmed on ESPN Argentina that the club has already made contact with him.
Paradizo wrote: “Dibu Martínez already knows that Manchester United want him as a goalkeeper next season. Onana wants to leave, and they are targeting Argentina’s national team goalkeeper. We reported on this on #espnf10. #dibumartinez #ManchesterUnited»
Martínez was mostly a backup goalkeeper at Arsenal, but has established himself as one of the world’s best players since his move to Villa in 2020.
The 32-year-old, who won the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2020, has also won the World Cup (2022) and Copa América (2021 and 2024) with Argentina.
In December 2024, Martínez was named “The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper” for the second time, having only won the award in 2022.
Although United are one of England’s biggest clubs, they are nowhere near as dominant as they were under Sir Alex Ferguson.
They are not in a position to challenge for the Premier League title for several years, and even a Champions League place seems difficult to achieve. However, according to a report from Bolavip this week, Martínez is still interested in a move to United.
The report claims that the goalkeeper wants to continue in the Premier League and is waiting for an offer from United.
