Manchester United are seriously considering signing Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in this transfer window.

The Red Devils struggled mightily in the attacking line in the 2024/25 season, with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to make their mark.

Manchester United are considering buying the striker who has scored 75 Premier League goals.

Man United have bolstered their attack this summer with the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while still negotiating a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

Ruben Amorim’s side were also in contention to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for £30 million, but the striker ultimately opted to move to Chelsea.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike are among the names linked with Old Trafford, but according to Fichajes, Watkins is also high on the club’s wish list.

Man United ‘seriously considering’ Watkins transfer
Arsenal tried to sign Watkins at the end of the January window and are still seen as interested in the England international this summer.

The striker had an impressive 2024/25 season for Unai Emery’s side, with 17 goals and 14 assists in 54 games in total.

Watkins scored 16 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 Premier League games, as well as 1 goal and 4 assists in 12 games in the Champions League.

In total, the Englishman has 87 goals and 42 assists in 223 appearances for Villa, including 75 goals and 36 assists in 184 appearances in the English top flight.

Would Watkins be a good buy for Man United?
Watkins wouldn’t come cheap, and Man United have deliberately avoided paying large sums of money for players approaching their 30s – so it would be a surprise if they go for him.

At the same time, there are few truly top-class attackers available right now, and the Red Devils can’t afford to miss out on this signing after last year’s attacking problems.

Watkins is an established and proven striker in English top-flight football, and could thrive in a new attack alongside Cunha and Mbeumo – but the numbers still need to be right for this to be a sensible deal for United.
