Manchester United have sparked interest in a £40 million star who previously turned down the chance to move to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim seems to have stabilized the ship somewhat at United, after a difficult start to life in the Premier League.

Manchester United followed their impressive performance at Anfield with a strong performance in the FA Cup against Arsenal, despite being down to 10 men.

Manchester United, who do not have much to go on to comply with the rules of profit and sustainability, will be cautious this winter.

Manchester United’s PSR situation
On The Athletic’s podcast, transfer expert David Ornstein explained the situation at Old Trafford.

“The way it’s been explained to me is that Manchester United are going to be fine with PSR this month,” he said.

“It’s not like the walls are collapsing on their financial situation — that’s not good, clearly, they have work to do. But I think there’s some room to do something [in the January window].”

According to talkSPORT, United are looking for “Palma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who was close to joining the club in the summer of 2023. And they will make an offer. United were heavily linked with the goalkeeper while he played at Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds (which Molde’s newly appointed head coach Per-Mathias Høgmo led for a while), but the 22-year-old rejected the transfer as he did not want to be the second choice of Andre Onana.

This must mean that Andre Onana is to be sold!

Suzuki joined Palma for £8.5 million in 2024, and his performances in Serie A have put the Japanese star back on United’s radar. Palma is hoping to keep Suzuki for the time being, due to how integral he has become to manager Fabio Pecchia and has responded to the interest by giving the youngster a £40 million price tag.

With United’s current financial problems, such figures are likely to price out Amorim for a January transfer.

But Manchester United may not be too upset about missing out on Suzuki for the second time after current backup Altay Bayindir’s man-of-the-match performance in the FA Cup.

This must mean that Altay Bayindir is Manchester United’s new first-choice goalkeeper
