Manchester United joined Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy.

CaughtOffside reports that Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are all chewing on strategy for what is clearly going to be a race for the Guinean international, who will be available for €50 million in January thanks to a buyout clause in his Dortmund contract. This clause can only be activated by the biggest clubs in the world, which are understood to be Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Arsenal, in addition to Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

This Monday is extremely important for Manchester United, who with a bit of luck and a win over Everton at Old Trafford can climb into the top four of the Premier League.

It is easy to be impressed by Guirassy who scores sensational goals on a continuous basis in Germany.

Serhou Guirassy: The journey so far

  • Born in France, he spent time at Laval, Lille and AJ Auxerre before signing for FC Köln in July 2016.
  • Guirassy struggled to establish himself and then returned to France with clubs such as Amiens SC and Rennes.
  • He swapped Rennes for Stuttgart in the summer of 2023 and began to leave a big impression on big clubs.
  • Dortmund were convinced to sign him for €18 million in July 2024.

Manchester United are described as “one to watch” as they consider a large-scale striker purchase in January. Benjamin Šesko signed for a whopping £74 million this summer, but has not had the desired effect so far, with only two goals in 12 games.

To make matters worse for Šesko, he is expected to be out for several weeks after suffering a minor knee injury.

Guirassy’s Bundesliga stats surpass Šesko’s by a wide margin
In the 2023/24 season, when he played for Stuttgart, Guirassy scored 28 league goals in as many games. Former RB Leipzig star Šesko, meanwhile, managed 14 goals in 31 games.

The following season, Guirassy’s first at Dortmund, he scored a further 21 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances and 38 goals across all competitions.

Guirassy is a ‘world-class’ target for Manchester United
It is important to note that Šesko is still honing his skills and is expected to become a top striker in the future. But Guirassy is a confident number nine who is already in his heyday, and he was even dubbed “world class” by Dortmund hero Roman Weidenfeller last year – he could be just what United need to shoot their way back into the top four.

Joshua Zirkzee is also in the squad, but he is getting ready for a departure in January as Matheus Cunha is ahead of him in the hierarchy.

As the report points out, United will face competition from Arsenal for Guirassy’s signature. The 29-year-old “appeals to Arsenal” because of his “clinical style and experience”.

Further afield, PSG are on the hunt for central strikers after loaning Randal Kolo Muani to Tottenham Hotspur, and the Parisians see Guirassy as an “upgrade” from Gonçalo Ramos.

We revealed last week that United are “divided” over whether to add an elite striker to their squad.

We understand that [manager Ruben] Amorim is keen to sign a ruthless goalscorer to improve their attack, but United are cautious about hindering Šesko’s development.

The report from CaughtOffside is not the first to discuss Guirassy’s buyout clause. It was first revealed by sections of the German media, with Manchester City among the clubs linked with him on October 24.

Barcelona are also understood to be keeping an eye on Guirassy as they prepare for life after Robert Lewandowski.
