Manchester United’s miserable run continues and a clear sign of how unsexy the club is can be seen when someone who is high on the wish list is of the opinion that the future is brighter at Ipswich Town.
Ipswich, who are below the red line on goal difference, confirm that they have signed Julio Enciso from Brighton, a player that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim really wanted to see as a replacement for outgoing left winger Alejandro Garnacho.
For a long time, Napoli seemed to be the most likely destination for the Argentine international, but now most people are talking about Chelsea after Garnacho’s agent visits Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City were ticking after Brighton star Julio Enciso, despite the youngster more typically favouring a central position.
However, Ipswich have beaten United to the fullest by landing the 21-year-old.
“I’m so happy to be here,” Enciso, who celebrated his 21st birthday with the move, told TownTV.
“The conversations with the manager have been good. I’m very grateful to him and the club for believing in me. I can’t wait to get started.
“I’m a real fighter and I want to do my best in every fight.”
In fact, the Tractor Boys have also battled the competition from Atalanta in Serie A and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Kieran McKenna, Ipswich’s manager and a former coach at Man Utd, appears to have been decisive in the decision, and the 38-year-old manager has repeatedly called Enciso in an attempt to sign for Ipswich until the end of the season.
Brighton, meanwhile, were concerned that the player should not travel abroad. The reason is simple: Enciso will complete his third season in the Premier League if he stays in England, and this will be enough to see him registered as a home team player.
It should have been an opening for Man Utd, who contacted Brighton and expressed interest in the player due to Garnacho’s likely departure. There was even a bid attempt, the Italian source claims, but when it was done, the deal between the Seagulls and Ipswich had already been made.
