Manchester United have reportedly submitted a £50 million bid for highly valued Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo.

United are currently in a disappointing 13th place in the Premier League, and Ruben Amorim is expected to strengthen his squad in the summer. Since taking over as manager in November 2024, only Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu have been brought to the club.

Any new signings will probably have to be financed through player sales to comply with financial regulations.

Amorim wants to be honest about the players’ future

Earlier this month, Amorim stated that he is willing to be “honest” with the players about their place at the club:

According to Football365, United, along with Juventus and Bayern Munich, have “formalized bids” for the Uruguayan centre-back, despite the fact that he recently signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2031.

Araújo, 26, will have to compete with Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez and Harry Maguire for a place in Manchester United’s defence should a transfer materialise.

The question is whether he is willing to trade Barcelona for a United without Champions League football next season.

Araújo has previously rejected interest from the Premier League

This is not the first time Araújo has been linked with United. Already in 2018, he revealed that he had “big offers” from abroad, but preferred to stay in Barcelona:
