On Sunday, Sir Jim Ratcliffe felt the wrath of the supporters. The supporters staged another protest against the owners, this time it was also Ratcliffe and not just the Glazers who heard it. After 15 months, Ratcliffe has managed to make himself unpopular, it didn’t help that he pushed for increased ticket prices to $66. Now the United boss makes new statements, this time about his own squad that is still fighting for advancement in the Europa League.

“If you look at the players we wanted to buy this summer, but we couldn’t buy, it’s because the club has bought Antony, Casemiro, Onana, Hojlund and Sancho. It’s things like that from the past, which whether we like it or not, are things the club inherits and are things we need to sort out,” Ratcliffe begins to Gary Neville in The Overlap.

“Take Sancho, who plays for Chelsea, as an example. We’re paying half the salary and we’re paying £17 million to sell him this summer. It will take time for us to move on from the past and into where we want to be in the future,” Ratcliffe continues.

“Some of the players we have are not good enough and at the same time they are probably overpaid, but it will take time for us to shape the squad the way we want while being fully responsible for the players we have today,” says the Unite boss.

Who only has one player he can name who does the job.

“There are still some good players in the team that we know. The captain, Bruno Fernandes is a fantastic footballer and is a player we definitely need.

The Manchester United boss thus disclaims responsibility. He himself has provided the club with an extra cost of over £20 million to sack Ten Hag, buy free Amorim, buy a free sporting director – then sack the guy after 159 days in the job.

We’re guessing these statements don’t impress either United fans or players.
