A senior Manchester United official dreams of hiring Luis Enrique as the club’s manager in the future, according to a recent update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Interim manager Michael Carrick has put himself in a strong position to be named Ruben Amorim’s permanent successor at United. Since taking over in January, he has taken 23 out of a possible 30 points.

Under the 44-year-old’s leadership, the Red Devils have gone from hoping for Champions League play to being in pole position to securing a place in Europe’s most prestigious club competition next season.
United are currently in third place ahead of their meeting with Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night, with seven games left in the season. Carrick and his men are six points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool before the weekend – a top-five finish guarantees a place in the 2026/27 Champions League.
With United on track to qualify for the first time since being knocked out in the group stage in 2023, Carrick could get the job on a permanent basis. But he is neither the only option nor the ultimate goal.

Romano: United boss is a ‘big fan’ of Luis Enrique
An internal leader at Manchester United, a “dream” of appointing PSG boss Luis Enrique as the club’s manager sometime in the future.
The ambition to achieve this now, however, seems unrealistic. The Ligue 1 leader is confident that the Spaniard will soon sign a new contract and stay at the Parc des Princes.
The 55-year-old, who many refer to as “the world’s best manager”, is now moving on in talks with the French giants. This week, they took another step towards the Champions League title when they beat Liverpool 2-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
In his latest YouTube video about Enrique’s situation, Romano said the following:
“What I can say is that Paris Saint-Germain are still absolutely optimistic. Nothing has been signed yet, but PSG remain optimistic – as they have always been.
Luis Enrique is moving forward in these talks with PSG about a new contract for the next few years. The talks up to 2030 are very positive.
The reality when it comes to Luis Enrique and Manchester United is that within United there is someone who is a big, big fan and who dreams of Luis Enrique becoming manager of the club one day.
Right now, however, Luis Enrique’s focus is on negotiating this new contract with PSG – and on what happens on the pitch.”
“The genius” Carrick has an option ready for United
One of the candidates is Germany’s manager Julian Nagelsmann. Along with Carrick, he ranks higher than Mauricio Pochettino on the club’s summer wish list.
According to journalist Jacobsmann, while he focuses on leading his nation in the 2026 World Cup, Nagelsmann is “open” to taking a club job in the summer. He is also very interested in becoming a manager in the Premier League.
Whether a deal can be landed before the championship is another matter. United want someone in place early this summer to prepare for what could be a big 2026/27 season – with European football back at Old Trafford.
