It’s obviously narrow at Old Trafford during the day and things don’t go, to put it gently, especially well during the day.

Before Sunday’s Premier League game against Newcastle at St. James’ Park, we discussed the chance of Manchester United winning. While Newcastle are fighting for a Champions League place and with that increase their chances of keeping Swedish superstar Alexander Isak, Manchester United hope that the season will soon be over.

Now there seems to be a rain of money that no one saw coming.

Manchester United look set to receive a significant financial injection, after clubs from the Saudi Arabian Professional League (SPL) are preparing a €90 million bid for Mason Greenwood.

According to Fichajes, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr are all interested in signing the English striker from Marseille. This will be fantastic news for United, as they have a 50% resale clause in Greenwood’s contract with Marseille.

If the sale goes through to the reported sum, United will thus receive 45 million euros.

Is Greenwood going to leave Marseille?

The likelihood of Greenwood leaving Marseille in the summer is said to be relatively high. He reportedly had a break with manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has taken him out of the starting line-up after a weak spell.

Greenwood was sold to Marseille for €26 million last summer, with €5 million in bonuses and the aforementioned resale clause. His value has risen significantly after a strong start in Ligue 1, where he has scored 17 goals in 31 appearances – making him the league’s second-best goalscorer.

Greenwood, who signed a five-year contract with Marseille, was put up for sale by United after it became clear that he could not continue his career at Old Trafford.

He did not play for United after he was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault. The case was dropped after key witnesses resigned, and Greenwood returned to football via a loan spell at Getafe (2023/24), where he recorded 10 goals and 6 assists.

Before his transfer to Marseille, clubs like Lazio, Juventus, Napoli and Dortmund were linked with him.

A move to Saudi Arabia would give United a significant financial boost, which could help them strengthen their squad this summer.

Greenwood, who was once seen as a future key player for both United and England, has had a difficult road back to top-flight football – but his performances in France have now attracted interest from the oil league.
