Antony left Manchester United on loan in the January window – but now the club can prevent him from making football history.
The Brazilian winger left Old Trafford in January when he signed for Spanish side Real Betis on loan for the rest of the season. Since the transfer, he has really regained his form with 8 goals and 5 assists in 24 games across all competitions. – Many will actually think he has never been better!
Next week, Antony has the opportunity to end the season with a highlight when Betis face Chelsea in the UEFA Conference League final.

Historical record at stake
If Betis win the Conference League, and Manchester United win the Europa League at the same time (they play the final against Tottenham tonight on Wednesday), Antony will become the first player ever to win two European trophies in the same season.
This is a unique opportunity – many players have won several European titles in their careers, but none have managed it in the same year. Examples include:
- Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) – won the UEFA Cup (2001) and Champions League (2005)
- Jamie Carragher (Liverpool) – same performance
However, if United do not beat Tottenham, the record will be avoided.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim stated:
He added:
Will Antony make history – or will he be stopped by his own parent club?
It all depends on two finals:
- Manchester United vs. Tottenham (Europa League)
- Real Betis vs. Chelsea (Conference League)
If both win, Antony will make history. If Manchester United lose, there will be no record, of course.
