Manchester United have arranged a meeting with Brentford to continue negotiations over the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.

The

2024/25 season was very disappointing for Manchester United. Results and performances were expected to improve when Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag as United manager in November 2024, but the team moved backwards. The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League, and although they reached the final of the Europa League, they lost it to Tottenham Hotspur.

But Manchester United have already started the rebuild for next season, while Amorim is aiming to get the club back among the big forces in English football.

United have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with Amorim planning to use the Brazilian international as one of their two attacking midfielders.

The club have also set their sights on a winger, with Brentford’s star Mbeumo high on the list. Amorim also sees him as an option for the other attacking midfield role in his preferred 3-4-2-1 system.

After it was reported that United’s initial bid for the 25-year-old was rejected, sources can now reveal exactly what Brentford are demanding.

TEAMtalk is asking Brentford around £60-65 million, of which £50-55 million is said to be fixed.

Manchester United’s stance is that they will pay no more than £47-48 million in flat fees and want to include bigger bonuses.

Sources indicate that United and Brentford are planning to discuss the financial details in an upcoming meeting, which is expected very soon.

The meeting is already scheduled and United are keen to close the deal quickly as they see Mbeumo as a key target.

Manhester United want to have everything ready by the middle of next week, as they race to make Mbeumo their second signing in the summer transfer window.

While there is not yet a full agreement on personal terms between United and Mbeumo, there is confidence on both sides that a solution will be found.

United have offered the Cameroonian winger a salary of £135,000 a week.

According to The Times, however, Mbeumo wants almost double the £250,000 a week, and negotiations are underway to find an agreement.

While it would be a big investment for United if they sign Mbeumo, Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes he will be a success at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 Premier League games for Brentford in the 2024/25 season.

Wright said on Wrighty’s House Podcast:
“When you saw that, although Ivan Toney got all the attention at Brentford, but when you saw Mbeumo then and see him now, he’s more consistent. The only thing that surprises me is that he is only 26 years old. If he goes to United, I think he’s someone who, if he gets the same opportunities he got at Brentford, will realise where he is. Because he’s taking a step up with the attention he’ll get at United.”
