Not many Man Utd supporters particularly cared this summer about Radek Vitek being loaned out to Bristol City. The Red Devils had goalkeeping challenges that a 22-year-old from the academy without first-team games could not solve. 20 Championship games into the season, there are few United supporters who have not seen Vitek’s performance.

Vitek signed for Manchester United in 2020, he has since been on loan in League Two at Accrington and Austrian side BW Linz. At Bristol City, they now call him “The Wall”. At 198 cm, Radek Vitek is an impressive figure, and he is proving to be a formidable force in the Championship this season.

Vitek have kept seven clean sheets, the most recent coming last weekend in a 1-0 win away to Portsmouth. No goalkeeper in the division has kept a clean sheet more times than him so far, and he has been instrumental in lifting the club to promotion contention: Bristol City are currently in 10th place, just outside the play-off places.

“I regularly talk to my goalkeeper coach from Manchester United, who has come here to watch my games, and I have a dialogue with them. I know they’re watching me and I really appreciate that I’m not just the guy who gets forgotten or something,” he said in an interview withSky Sports.

United’s continued strong interest in the 22-year-old also shows great potential in the almost two-metre tall Czech goalkeeper.

Vitek dreams of breaking through at Manchester United, but he is also aware of the realities.

“In the long term, of course, I would like to play for Manchester United one day, but I am also realistic and I know that my path can also lead somewhere else,” concludes the goalkeeper who is working his way forward every day, one potential step closer to Old Trafford.

A very exciting goalkeeper for Manchester United, we guess this step closer to Old Trafford has already been taken after seven clean sheets in the second division.
