Manchester United needed to get rid of several players this summer, Alejandro Garnacho was one of them. The Argentine had gone angry after being stripped of his VIP card as the next generation United star by Amorim. Chelsea eventually made the decision to “lighten” the United squad for Garnacho, putting £40 million on the table. Now a signing battle is taking place in which Manchester United have been given an extra advantage by Chelsea.

According to Teamtalk’s sources , Chelsea had Semenyo as a top target this summer, with Enzo Maresca looking for a new left winger to replace the likes of Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk. Semenyo was the chosen one, but for the “first time” Chelsea chose not to pay a premium.

Chelsea contacted Bournemouth in the summer to see if they could make a deal for Semenyo. However, they withdrew from the talks after being presented with a wild £100 million transfer fee. Chelsea felt the price was inflated, and decided to head for Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens instead. They paid Manchester United £40 million for Garnacho, while Gittens came from Borussia Dortmund for £52 million.

Thus, Chelsea are out of the Semenyo hunt, fully loaded with wing reinforcements. Now Manchester United are on the offensive to sign the Bournemouth star, not at £100 million, but with a buyout clause of £60 million (plus 5).
