Manchester United could miss out on the signing of Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

Major setback for United

Manchester United have suffered a significant setback in their pursuit of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

United have already strengthened their attacking line ahead of the new season with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. After spending £62.5m on Cunha, the Red Devils are now looking for Mbeumo, who has been the subject of two bids.

Manchester United opened with a bid of £45 million, which was quickly rejected by Brentford. The Premier League club also turned down an improved bid from United.

An enhanced offer worth up to £62.5 million for Mbeumo was also turned down – £55 million upfront plus £7.5 million in bonuses for the 25-year-old, whose real salarydemands came to light during negotiations.

Whether United will make a third bid remains to be seen.

Tottenham disrupts plans

The hunt for Mbeumo has taken a dramatic turn after recent developments at Brentford.

According to Ben Jacobs, Tottenham – who appointed Thomas Frank as their new manager last month – are considering a move for Yoane Wissa. Frank wants to take Wissa with him to North London.

The 28-year-old DR Congo international is said to be interested in a transfer.

Brentford won’t lose both

According to the report, Brentford do not want to lose both Wissa and Mbeumo in the same window.

If Tottenham strike a deal with Brentford before United, Ruben Amorim could miss out on signing the Cameroonian international.

Key players for Brentford

Wissa has been at Brentford since the summer of 2021, following a move from Lorient. He has scored 49 goals in 149 appearances in all competitions.

Mbeumo, who joined Brentford in 2019, helped the team gain promotion to the Premier League. He has scored 70 goals in 242 games for the club.

Wissa and Mbeumo have been crucial to Brentford’s success in recent years and have a strong interaction on the pitch. But it looks like the duo will split this summer – with one of them expected to leave the club.
