Jadon Sancho’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of June. Finally!, most Man Utd supporters would probably say. The club spent well over a year signing the English super talent at Borussia Dortmund, had to shell out a wild €85 million in 2021, as well as committing to a five-year contract with the young player, at a weekly wage of around £300,000. This without having scored a single goal in a United shirt. The giant investment in the left wing actually only gave United a total of 12 goals.

Manchester United have worked all the way to recoup some of the euros they put into Sancho in 2021, but have had to settle for Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa taking part of the wage bills since 2024.

In familiar style, Manchester United have secured an option for another season, also in Jadon Sancho. The plan was probably for the winger to play his way into form at Dortmund, Chelsea (paid millions to avoid buying Sancho) or Villa, but this has not happened. In 1170 minutes in the match arena in an Aston Villa shirt, Sancho has delivered 1 (!) goal.

According to The Sun , Man Utd management have now given up hope of bringing in sales revenue on Sancho by pressing the option button for another season, before entering negotiations with the buying club. The United bosses see they have nothing to get in on Sancho sale, and let his contract expire in the summer, it is reported.

Awkward, but time to tear the band-aid off completely. The Jadon Sancho signing has become one of the club’s most expensive blunders – ever.
