With Kobbie Mainoo “out in the cold” on matchday at Ruben Amorim and United’s signing of Carlos Baleba stopped by Brighton, a Brazilian veteran has suddenly been given a new role at Manchester United. Heavily linked to the exit of Old Trafford over the past year, United are no longer in a hurry to remove Casemiro from the wage budget.

According to CaughtOffside’s source, Casemiro’s future could now lie with Manchester United, despite strong interest from the Saudi Arabian club, where former Real mate Karim Benzema is keen to have the Brazilian behind him in midfield.

So what has changed for Casemiro since last season?

A source “with good connections” told the English media: “Casemiro’s role at Manchester United has evolved under new manager Ruben Amorim. Amorim has repositioned him as a deep-lying playmaker, giving him key responsibilities in both defensive transitions and build-up plays. This tactical shift has reinforced Casemiro’s importance in the team, especially after United failed to secure Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.”

Casemiro has a contract with United until the summer of 2026, but is not pushing to leave.

Amorim will have to rebuild his midfield at some point, but so far the United manager seems to see the value of keeping veteran Casemiro – in a role the Brazilian can exploit several of his strengths.
