Less than 24 hours ago, Sporten.com wrote that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo flourish at Old Trafford. Now Manchester United seem to have listened to at least half of what we wrote.

Kobbie Mainoo has had her Manchester United career saved.

Kobbie Mainoo is now set to remain at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, as a reliable source reveals the shockingly low sum Manchester United were previously willing to sell him for.

Mainoo broke through as one of Manchester United’s most exciting young players during Erik ten Hag’s era, scoring the winning goal against rivals Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup final. However, the midfielder’s progress was hindered by Ten Hag’s successor, Amorim.

The Portuguese didn’t think Mainoo had the qualities to play like a 6. Instead, Mainoo was placed behind Bruno Fernandes in the hierarchy for the number 8 role. Mainoo submitted transfer requests both this month and last summer, as he has been reduced to a substitute this season.

The England star is worried about his World Cup chances, but Manchester United’s sacking of Amorim on Monday could save his career at Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, United were “so committed” to Amorim last summer that they were “prepared to sell Mainoo for just £40 million”.

A sale at that price would have infuriated United fans, as Mainoo is an academy product with a huge future, as well as Chelsea being asked for £70m when they made contact for the 20-year-old in an earlier transfer window.

Mainoo eventually stayed at United as Amorim did not want to lose him without an adequate replacement being brought in.

Kobbie Mainoo could “benefit the most” from Amorim’s departure
The report mentions Mainoo as “one of the big winners” of Amorim’s departure. He is now “expected to stay” and fight to get back into the starting eleven.

The Daily Mail mentioned Mainoo as the player who can “benefit the most” from Darren Fletcher taking over on an interim basis.

It emerged earlier on Tuesday that Mainoo was among six players Amorim deeply injured during his turbulent period. It has even been suggested that Lisandro Martínez attacked the coach during training.

Our sources state that Joshua Zirkzee is still eager to join Roma this month, despite Amorim’s departure.

However, Mainoo knew that he had to survive Amorim to get his United career back on track. Our own Dean Jones has referred to the sacking as a “turning point” for Mainoo’s United career.
