Not too many Premier League rounds ago, Andre Onana emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in the world’s toughest league. Almost forgotten was the horrendous debut season where United supporters held their breath every time a shot was fired in the direction of the United goal.
This winter, Onana has once again conceded some easy goals that of course go viral. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper goes from extreme saves to massive goalkeeping blunders. Now it can no longer be blamed alive in the United shirt, soon only twenty games away from the first 100.
Second goalkeeper, Bayindir, has also failed to impress in his place. The opportunities have been limited, but a real blunder in the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has not helped. The Telegraph reported earlier this month that United have started their search for alternatives.
According to both the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail , the choice has fallen on Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. The 22-year-old has established himself as the first goalkeeper at Brighton and is a regular in the Dutch national team. Brighton are demanding around £30 million to release Verbruggen, according to the two English media, Manchester United are making a clear bid to bring Verbruggen to Old Trafford as a long-term solution.
Andre Onana has been given his chances.
