Onana out of pre-season Manchester
United start pre-season next weekend ahead of the 2025/26 season. They travel to Sweden to face old rivals Leeds United, before flying to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series with games against West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton on the schedule.
This will be Amorim’s first pre-season with United since he was hired in November last year. But his plans have suffered a serious setback, as Andre Onana is out of action for the entire pre-season, according to The Telegraph.
Onana suffered a hamstring injury this week when the players showed up for training at Carrington. He can be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Amorim is considering a new goalkeeper
The report claims that Amorim is now considering whether the club should sign a new goalkeeper before the Premier League season starts next month. United have already been linked with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez and Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Martínez is expected to leave Villa Park this summer, and United are monitoring his situation closely. With Onana’s injury, Amorim could increase the pressure to secure the Argentine before the season opener against Arsenal on August 17.
Donnarumma is another name that has been mentioned. He has a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, and several clubs, including United, are interested in signing him on a free transfer. However, if United want the Italian as early as this summer, they will have to pay a transfer fee as he is still under contract with PSG.
Onana’s roles at United
Onana made 50 appearances for United in all competitions last season, including 34 league appearances. He was criticized for several weak performances between the sticks.
The goalkeeper joined United from Inter Milan for £47.2 million in the summer of 2023.
What has Emiliano Martínez said about a move to Manchester United?
Martínez was asked about his future during international duty with Argentina last month. When confronted with the rumours of a transfer, he replied:
“My future? I don’t know. I’m here to play for the national team, and that’s the only thing that matters to me right now.”
“Do I want to change clubs? The transfer window has just opened, so there is a long time left.”
