The last piece that had to be put in place for Manchester United’s investment this year was the approval of the “new Old Trafford”. Three world-class stars will be in place and the price tag is an unimaginable 250 million euros.
Fichajes reports that 2025 will be the most expensive transfer year in Manchester United’s history.
Manchester United are preparing for the transfer of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and Paris Saint-Germain wing-back Achraf Hakimi this year.
Everyone doubts that there will be a transfer this winter, both Wirtz and Hakimi almost certainly unavailable this month.
Erik ten Hag oversaw an eighth-place finish last season in the Premier League, the worst finish ever by Manchester United since the competition’s rebranding in 1992.
Nothing got better with the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new Manchester United manager just under three months ago.
The 39-year-old arrived with high hopes after a brilliant spell at Sporting Lisbon, where he won two Primeira Liga titles and developed a number of talented players like Gyokeres.
However, Amorim’s first months at Old Trafford have been historically bad. Manchester United have won six, three draws and lost seven of Amorim’s first 16 games as manager. – Later today, Sunday, we will see if Ruben Amorim at Craven Cottage can improve on the statistics.
Amorim has the third-worst win rate of any Manchester United manager in the club’s history and the worst since 1931 when Herbert Hamlett led the club.
Amorim did not hide from United’s problems in the aftermath of the 3-1 loss to Brighton last week, describing this as “the worst team in Manchester United history.”
“Imagine what this is for a Manchester United fan,” Amorim said.
“Imagine what this is for me. We get a new coach who loses more than the previous coach. I have full knowledge of it,” Amorim told reporters.
“I’m not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we have to survive this moment. I’m not naïve. We have to survive now.
“We are perhaps the worst team in Manchester United’s history. I know you want headlines, but I say that because we need to acknowledge it and change it. Here it is: your headlines.”
Amorim added, “It’s hard to explain. We must acknowledge the moment and not go around the problem. Everyone here is underperforming, no matter the circumstances. We are underperforming and have to accept that.
“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games to a Premier League club, think Manchester United. So it’s a very difficult moment, but we have to keep going, we have to keep going, there’s no other way. We must suffer and continue.
“Our players are very nervous and anxious. When you go into the last pitch you remember the last games here, if I feel it, the players feel it a lot. The only way is to keep doing the same thing and win games.”
