The news comes after reports from The Guardian yesterday that negotiations had stalled after Brentford suddenly increased the price of the striker, who can play both centrally and on the right wing.
Manchester United had two previous bids for Mbeumo rejected.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian, who plays for the Cameroonian national team, has already expressed a desire to move to United, according to media reports.
Mbeumo has one year left on his contract with Brentford, but the club has an option for another year. He scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season.
