Marcus Rashford, who is on loan to Barcelona from Manchester United, wants to continue his life at Camp Nou. Sportingly, things are going so hard for Barcelona. Manager Hansi Flick, with good help from Marcus Rashford, is in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and at the top of La Liga.

Tomorrow, Sunday, Barcelona will host Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Barcelona have made a new bid for Marcus Rashford, and a report outlines exactly how Manchester United will respond.

Rashford has shone during his season-long loan at Barcelona so far, with 10 goals and 13 assists. What makes these numbers even more impressive is that Rashford has not been a regular fixture in the starting eleven under Hansi Flick.

All parties involved – Man Utd, Barcelona, Rashford – are unanimous in their desire to see him back at Camp Nou next season.

But while Rashford and Barcelona have come to an agreement on personal terms in principle, there is turbulence on the club-to-club side.

Barcelona are trying everything they can to NOT activate their €30 million call option. The reasons are the ones you’d expect from Barcelona these days – financial.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently confirmed that Barca have offered to take Rashford on a new loan spell that will cover the 2026/27 season.

Manchester United would eventually receive the €30 million, but the funds would either arrive a year later than originally planned in 2027, or the amount would be split into two equal payments over the next two summers.

Neither scenario is ideal for Man Utd, who considering they are preparing for a monumental summer transfer window, want to spend the sale price for Rashford on a huge deal round.

And according to the latest reports from The Mirror, Man Utd will make the right decision and reject Barcelona’s offer of a new loan spell.

They write: “Manchester United will reject Barcelona’s attempt to extend Marcus Rashford’s loan deal for another season.

“And United will tell the Spaniards that they have to pay the agreed sum of £26 million – or send the England star back to Manchester in June.”

Man Utd’s hard line is the right one in this case. Rashford has proven this season that he is worth every cent of the €30 million, and on the open market there is a perception that Man Utd could fetch an even higher sum.

All eyes will be on how Barcelona respond, and there have already been reports in the Spanish media that Barca are looking for alternatives, such as Chelsea’s Pedro Neto.

But in reality, that link makes very little sense, as Neto would have cost far more than €30 million / £26 million to sign anyway. Let’s not forget that the Portuguese winger cost £54 million when he moved from Wolves to Chelsea in 2024, and at the age of 26, he is a few years younger than Rashford.

According to Ben Jacobs, the internal opinion at Man Utd is that if they stand firm and hold their ground, Barcelona will eventually face defeat, exercise their option and buy Rashford permanently for €30 million in the summer.
