Rashford, 27, said he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview after being dropped for the Manchester City game on December 15.
The England international then missed the 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham and was also left out when United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth on Sunday, adding to speculation that he could leave Old Trafford in January.
“It’s a difficult situation,” Amorim told Sky Sports.
“I understand that these players have a lot of people around them, who are making choices that are not the first idea from the player.
“They chose to do the interview since it’s not just Marcus.”
“He wants to play. he tries’
Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club since his debut in 2016.
But while he managed 30 goals in all competitions in 2022-23, he has struggled for form in three of the previous four seasons and attracted criticism from pundits and fans for a series of tired performances.
Amorim said he can “separate” the decisions of those who advise Rashford from his relationship with the player.
“At the moment, I’m focused on improving Marcus,” he added.
“We need a talented guy like Marcus. I forget about the interview now and see what I see on the pitch.”
As for Rashford’s future, the Portuguese boss said it is up to him and the club “to deal with it when the time comes”.
Speaking to the wider media ahead of United’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday, Amorim denied that the talk around Rashford was a distraction, adding: “Some boys have a big responsibility here because they’ve been here for a long time.
“If you have great talents, [we need] great achievements, great responsibility, great commitment to push everyone forward at this moment. Like any other player, [we want him to be] the best he can be.
“This is perhaps one of the lowest moments at our club. We have to face it and be strong.”
United’s humiliating defeat to the Cherries means they go into Christmas in 13th place in the Premier League, after Wolves host Newcastle on December 30.
It will be their lowest position in the table at this stage since they finished 15th in 1986, just over two months after Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign as manager.
Amorim had to stop the press conference after the game on Sunday due to a leak in the ceiling of the press room.
When asked later how he intended to turn around his fortune at Old Trafford, the former Sporting coach pointed to the ceiling and said: “If I knew, I would solve all the problems of this club, including this one.
“I know what to do. It’s so clear to me. I wouldn’t say I feel relaxed because I’m very frustrated. It’s a very difficult moment, but we will solve problems step by step and find answers to everything.”
